Future King of England and noted environmentalist Prince Charles has unveiled a new plan to help businesses align with environmental work. The “Terra Carta” is a new project designed to “bring prosperity into harmony with nature.”

The document’s statement of intent includes commitments to biodiversity restoration, Paris Climate Agreement, and Sustainable Development Goals. Signatories must agree to 100 actions to become more sustainable by 2030. The charter will direct $10 billion to environmental causes and has already been backed by Bank of America and BP. Unilever, HSBC, Blackrock, EY and AstraZeneca have already backed this.

Prince Charles writes in the forward, “If we consider the legacy of our generation, more than 800 years ago, Magna Carta inspired a belief in the fundamental rights and liberties of people. As we strive to imagine the next 800 years of human progress, the fundamental rights and value of nature must represent a step-change in our ‘future of industry’ and ‘future of economy’ approach. With this in mind, nature, of which we are an integral part, lies at the heart of the Terra Carta. I am calling on CEOs from around the world to engage and play their part in leading the global transition.”

Speaking virtually, Prince Charles said, “Today, I am making an urgent appeal to leaders, from all sectors and from around the world…to give their support to this Terra Carta – to bring prosperity into harmony with nature, people and planet over the coming decade. I can only encourage, in particular, those in industry and finance to provide practical leadership to this common project, as only they are able to mobilise the innovation, scale and resources that are required to transform our global economy.”

Speaking out about climate change has become a family affair among UK royals. Most recently, both Prince Harry and Prince William have been speaking out about climate change as well. Not to mention, the Queen’s speech to parliament included a plea for environmental protection. Prince William launched a £50 million ($64.54 million) prize in October called the Earthshot Prize.
