Pakistani actor Resham is receiving major backlash after polluting river, blaming it on having COVID-19 and suggesting there are bigger issues to worry about.
The actor was filmed polluting a river by throwing meat, bread, and plastic waste into it. The video shows her walking out of her car on a bridge and throwing two loaves of bread, meat, and the plastic packaging they were wrapped in. She was forced to apologize after the video was posted on one of her social media fan pages.
In the first bizarre explanation video, the actor said that she wanted to feed the river’s living beings. She said that it was “one of the biggest mistakes of my career”. Not noting or apologizing for her apparent disregard for the planet, environment, or animals, though.
Then, after being slammed by users across Pakistan, she made another interesting apology video saying that COVID-19 was the reason that she did this strange act. She said that she was “unintentionally” forgetful of things because she possibly had long-Covid.
“I have had Covid twice, and its effects are still there. I forget things and don’t remember what I did four hours ago. This is why I did not realize what I was going to do and threw the bags in recklessness.”
“It seemed like I did not throw just two bags in the water but was responsible for the entire world’s Pollution. People are targeting me as if I have committed a sin, and all the floods and catastrophe has happened because of me,” she said.
Although she admitted to her pollution, she pivoted once again and said there were bigger issues to focus on, like sexual assault.
“I admit that I made a mistake when I threw plastic into the flood water, but women are gang raped every day. There is a lot of violence against women, but everyone is blinded by a piece of plastic. They live in a place where only fools can be happy. I was just giving charity,” she said
While all of these issues are incredibly important to focus on, it does not take away from the fact of global warming. Pollution is a leading contributor to climate change. Plastic Pollution has a major impact on marine animals and living things as a whole. It is never ok to pollute and throw garbage wherever you please!
Plastic waste is killing whales all around the globe at an alarming rate. A Cuvier beaked whale washed ashore in the Philippines with over 40 kilos of plastic in its stomach. A pilot whale died in southern Thailand as a result of eating more than 80 plastic bags. The body of a dead sperm whale washed up on the southern coast of Spain was found to have 64 pounds of plastic bags, a jerrycan, and several pieces of rope and net. Studies show a majority of whales found dead in the Mediterranean were killed by our plastic trash. Sea Shepherd created an eye-opening campaign to draw attention to how plastic pollution impacts whales and dolphins.
Plastic is also found in various other animals as well, like deer and cows. There are products you may be using or habits you may have that contribute to plastic Pollution.
