Secret Film from Well-Known Duck Farm Shows Workers Barbarically Snapping Necks of Birds

The Animal Justice Project secretly filmed footage at a well-known UK duck farm of a worker snapping birds necks. Gressingham Foods allegedly supplies duck to Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.

In the footage, animals have their necks broken by farmers and then thrown on the ground, still alive. According to the Daily Mail, the footage was part of a two-month investigation at two farms that they allege shows rule violations at abuse of the animals at farms.

The farms house 6,500 to 12,000 birds in each shed, which amounts to two square feet of floor space. In one shed, 130 birds share a single water source.

The farm said the footage is not “evidence of systemic abuse or neglect.” Actress and vegan Evanna Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter movies, called for an end to duck farming based on the footage. “This campaign exposes abuse by the UK’s biggest duck producer, Gressingham Foods. The findings are heartbreaking and cannot be ignored.I encourage you to celebrate Christmas this year with compassion for everyone by leaving ducks, and all animals, off your plate.”

Animal Justice Project spokesperson Claire Palmer said, “Duck farming in Britain symbolises everything that is wrong with animal agriculture.Profit invariably comes before anything else in this industry – even an animal’s most basic needs. The duck industry has not improved over the years, it has got worse. Scenes of flailing and filthy birds on their backs are difficult to watch but are the sad reality for many, many farmed ducks. We don’t need to be subjecting these birds to a life of misery, or any animal.Animal Justice Project advocates a vegan diet, and we urge the government to stop subsidising this cruel and unnecessary industry.”

Investigations have been launched at the British Retail Consortium and Red Tractor, a food assurance operation.
