In early January, Tofurky announced its launch of a beef-style plant-based burger. The company launched the new product in Target locations across the United States. The burgers are non-GMO and vegan.

The burger is made from soy and vegetable proteins, wheat gluten and is seasoned with onion, salt, garlic and black pepper. The company claims that the soy base is more environmentally friendly than rival pea protein bases for plant-based burgers. In addition, the packaging for the burger uses recyclable cartons with 23% less material and 69% less plastic film than competitors.

Jaime Athos, president and CEO of Tofurky said of the launch, ” I can’t wait for Target shoppers to try our new Plant-Based Burger. We are very happy with the final recipe and beef-style texture. Many flexitarians resolve to go completely plant-based for the month of January, so we wanted provide a new burger option now, ahead of summer grilling, that is affordable, delicious, and accessible.”

Tofurky is a long-time player in the plant-based meats space. This market continues to grow with Beyond Meat, the Impossible Burger and Impossible Pork. Tofurky launched vegan cheesecakes and pizza pockets earlier this year.

While it’s great to see so many amazing plant-based burgers in the market, and they sure are delicious, here are some great recipes of non-processed plant-based ‘meaty’ burgers you can make at home:
