#NationalPuddingDay: 15 Creamy Dairy-Free Pudding Recipes!

LIKE OGP ON FACEBOOK :

Happy Pudding Day!

We all love the rich, sweet, creamy taste of pudding. We love it so much that multiple cultures have tried to take credit for the mouth-watering dish. If you ask a British person, they might claim they pioneered pudding during the middle ages. But that was only the meat version. If you wander over to Rome, they might tell you that they came up with the custard which is much more similar to the puddings we typically enjoy today.  What we do known is that the first reference to chocolate pudding wasn’t until 1703, but since that’s quite a bit removed from the middle ages or Roman empire, the true origins of the dessert might always remain subject to debate.

But what isn’t subject to debate is how deliciously easy it is to make puddings plant-based and delicious. We’ve put together 15 of our favorite pudding recipes for you to enjoy.

Bon Appetit!

1. Banana Pudding Brûlée

A creamy and thick Banana Pudding Brûlée, sprinkled with a generous serving of sugar, which is then caramelized to create a deep and rich caramel film that makes the notorious shattering sound when broken. By Lauren Wright.

2. Mango Phirni: Indian Rice Pudding

This Mango Phirni: Indian Rice Pudding by Srividhya Manikandan with flattened rice is a simple yet delightful rice pudding. It’s a popular dessert recipe from the Indian subcontinent and is prepared with milk, rice, sugar, and the added flavors of saffron or cardamom or both. This vegan version is just as creamy and comforting as the traditional pudding!

3. Banana Chocolate Chia Pudding

Emily von Euw‘s Banana Chocolate Chia Pudding uses Chia seeds to their maximum effect. Chia seeds maintain blood sugar levels as they slow our bodies conversion of carbohydrates into simple sugars. They are great for an athletic person as they can effectively replenish minerals lost in sweat. Chia seeds can also help in weight loss as they swell up to 10 times their size, which prevents absorption of some calories we eat. Chia puddings are great for breakfast as they will provide you with ample energy throughout the day.

4. Mexican-Spiced Chocolate Avocado Pudding

Avocado in a dessert? Seems odd at first, we know. However, it makes sense that such a creamy vegetable would work well in a decadent pudding recipe. Emily Brees’s Mexican-Spiced Chocolate Avocado Pudding is rich, creamy, and so chocolatey, you’ll forget about the avocado part quickly. The chili powder, cinnamon, and salt add just the right amount of contrast.

5. Breakfast Blueberry Chia Pudding

This egg-free Blood Orange Crème Brûlée by Emily von Euw is velvety, creamy, and utterly delicious. Soy cream and almond milk are simmered with scraped vanilla beans and then combined with the secret ingredient — egg replacer mixed with superfine sugar. The result is a luscious custard that caramelizes just like traditional crème brûlée.

6. Hazelnut Chocolate Parfait

Jana Kastner’s  super yummy Hazelnut Chocolate Parfait is sure to hit the spot. It is a seriously delicious treat that is not only vegan, gluten-free, free of processed sugar and starches but it also takes only 5 ingredients to make!

7. Raw Chocolate Chia Pudding

Emily von Euw‘s Raw Chocolate Chia Pudding is a variant of pudding traditionally made with a combination of young Thai coconuts and cashews. Using a base of almonds and walnuts changes the texture to a deeper and richer body and offers a delicious alternative.

8. Syrian Rose Flavored Rice Pudding

Syrian Rose Flavored Rice Pudding by Pavani Nandula is a creamy and delicious rice pudding flavored with rose essence. 10. Raw Chocolate Berry Pudding

This Raw Chocolate Berry Pudding by Emily von Euw  is so tasty, and as all food should be – good for you and your sexy bod. It’s pretty much just fruit blended with some cacao and nut butter. You don’t have to add nut butter though (if you want it to be fat-free).

11. Golden Rice Pudding With Turmeric, Ginger, and Pink Peppercorns

This Golden Rice Pudding With Turmeric, Ginger, and Pink Peppercorns by Christine DesRoches  is a spin on the Ayurvedic turmeric-based beverage, golden milk. This lightly-sweetened pudding is a medley of flavor with turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, peppercorn, and ginger. It’s a health-promoting treat that’s perfect for any time.

12. Chocolate Chia Breakfast Pudding

Emily von Euw‘s Chocolate Chia Breakfast Pudding is high in plant-based Omega-3 essential fatty acids, containing high fiber and protein yield. With the addition of the low-glycemic index Vega One Nutritional Shake, this breakfast pudding recipe keeps your blood sugar balanced and is satisfyingly decadent tasting.

13. Carrot Cake Pudding

Kuzu root powder gives Annie Oliverio’s  Carrot Cake Pudding plenty of health benefits! Kuzu contains no fat, is low in calories, and has virtually no taste. Not only a thickening agent, it is also used to treat stomach and digestion issues, to stimulate appetite, as an aid to relieve diarrhea, and even as a cold remedy. And you thought this was just going to be just a bowl of pudding!

14. Pistachio Creme Brûlée

Michaell Johnson’s Pistachio Creme Brûlée custard is far from plain and well worth skipping out on any other desserts you might make or even buy. Even though there are just a few simple ingredients and steps, the complexity in flavor with its burnt sugar and pistachio vanilla bean custard make this deserving of any table.
