Two years ago, Peggy and Ruby, the Staffordshire bull terriers, met Molly the magpie for the first time when they were out at a dog park near their home in Queensland, Australia.

Juliette Wells and her partner Reece saw the baby magpie when they were at the dog park and realized that she had been abandoned by her parents.
“It was magpie breeding season,” Juliette told PEOPLE of when she first met Molly. “Sometimes, magpie parents force babies out of the nest because the parents had too many, or there is not enough to feed all the babies.”
“So this one day, we were taking Peggy for a walk, and there was this tiny, cute magpie baby wandering around,” she said.
After they saw Molly, they waited at the dog park for several hours to see if the magpie’s parents would show up again to help the bird. When the parents didn’t show up, they decided they needed to save the bird. They contacted their friends in wildlife rescue and were given guidance on how to care for the bird.
Since then, Molly has become a key part of the family. At first, the pups didn’t know what to make of her, but after a few days, they became more curious. Molly became curious about the dogs as well. Peggy eventually started to give Molly piggyback rides and even take naps together.
Peggy is especially close with Molly and started to post pictures of the pair on social media.
“People were shocked at the relationship between the two of them and how they were always together and loved lying together and going to sleep together,” Juliette said.
Now, Peggy and Molly have over 197,000 followers on Instagram.
“I try and put across love and acceptance. Basically, these animals are different, but they don’t really care about that. They accept each other for who they are. I mean, you’ve got a dog that has the jaws to crush a bird to death, and you’ve got this magpie that could stab the dog’s eyes out. But they’re not. They’ve never been aggressive with each other,” she said.
