Kaimana Ocean Safari found a bird’s nest floating in the ocean in Kailua-Kona, HI, with two baby birds inside and no mama bird in sight! They immediately dried them off, warmed them up, and kept them hydrated.

They contacted a local rescue, who informed them how to properly care for the babies.

Spring and summer are nesting seasons for most birds, and it’s not uncommon for people to regularly find baby birds out of the nest and on their own. When you come across a bird that seems like they need help, first, you must determine if they are actually in need of assistance.

More energetic birds should be fine on their own, while seemingly weaker and less active birds will most likely need help. Birds of any age that have injuries will also need help. Oftentimes, simply moving the bird to a safer nearby location out of direct sunlight or returning them to their nest is the best thing you can do.

Although these baby birds sadly didn’t have a home to return to, they were brought to a rescue and given the proper care they needed to survive!

Just like any other animal, birds face so many manmade threats in addition to natural ones, such as being rejected, injured, or affected by the elements. It’s been found that methane gas from landfills burns birds. They are also killed by climate change and flying into tall glass buildings. Many birds also become victims of the cruel exotic pet trade.

Fortunately, some pretty amazing people are willing to do whatever they can to save these adorable, often misunderstood animals.
