Fashionable Cat with Manx Syndrome Inspires Thousands on Social Media

Cat face tilted upwards. Cat noses are complex structures.

Cecily, the stylish two-legged feline, has won the hearts of tens of thousands of online fans with her fashionable outfits and inspiring story. The 5-year-old Siamese-mix cat resides in The Cattery animal shelter in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she has lived since she was just 2 months old. Known for taking in and rehabilitating abandoned, abused, and homeless cats, The Cattery became Cecily’s permanent home due to her unique condition.

Cecily was born with Manx syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects the development of the spine in cats. As a result, her organs didn’t develop properly, leading to issues with bladder and bowel control. Her deformity required the amputation of her hind legs, and she now relies on a diaper for her daily needs. Despite these challenges, Cecily remains upbeat and resilient.

Katie Hatfield, The Cattery’s social media manager, has been with the shelter for four years and has witnessed Cecily’s journey firsthand. She describes Cecily as strong, fast, and incredibly sweet. The shelter decided to create an Instagram account for Cecily to showcase her fashion choices and spread positivity. With over 16,000 followers, Cecily’s account has become a hub of inspiration for cat lovers worldwide.

Cecily’s Instagram page features weekly fashion updates, where she dons colorful dresses and outfits. The wardrobe initially served the practical purpose of covering her diapers. The shelter enlisted the help of a talented seamstress who designed a full-body harness to keep the diaper secure. Additionally, the seamstress tailored numerous outfits to fit Cecily’s unique shape and size. From cute blue shark pajamas to a variety of custom designs, Cecily has become a fashionista in her own right.

Beyond Instagram, Cecily has a dedicated Facebook page with over 32,000 followers and a private group with 21,000 fans. Her presence on social media has allowed The Cattery to raise awareness about disability in cats, particularly Manx syndrome, while spreading positivity during challenging times. The shelter, currently home to more than 180 cats, increased its social media activity during the pandemic to connect with people worldwide.

Katie Hatfield believes that Cecily’s story is inspirational and resonates with many. Despite her physical limitations, Cecily perseveres, reminding people to stay positive and resilient. The uplifting content shared by The Cattery’s staff aims to uplift and Support others, especially during difficult times.

Cecily’s story is a testament to the resilience and spirit of animals. Her fashionable outfits and infectious positivity serve as a beacon of hope for countless individuals worldwide. Through social media, this stylish cat continues to inspire and bring joy to all who encounter her tale of triumph over adversity.
