Jason Momoa shaved his head to highlight the issue of single-use plastics and how they are destroying our environment. In an Instagram video, Momoa says, “Aloha, everyone,” then pauses. “Hand me those braids.”
He holds up two long pieces of braided hair as someone continues with clippers to cut down his iconic shoulder-length hair.
“Shavin’ off the hair… doing it for…” he said before looking at the newly shaved side of his head in the camera. “I’ve never even felt the wind right there!” he said.
“Doing it for single-use plastics,” he continued. “I’m tired of using plastic bottles, we gotta stop, plastic forks, all that shit, goes into our land, goes into our ocean.”
“I’m here in Hawaii right now, and just seeing things in our ocean, it’s just so sad. Please, anything you can do to eliminate single-use plastics in your lives. Help me, plastic bottles are ridiculous… we’re going to keep going — oh, man. Love you guys. Aloha.”
Momoa is known to use his platform to speak out for the environment. Recently, Momoa showed that he is not only a protector of the deep sea on screen, but the famous actor is also helping fight for the world’s oceans in real life. He spoke in front of dozens of youth activists and talked about the problems that the world’s oceans are facing.
Momoa also became the UN Environment Programme advocate for Life Below Water. Sign this petition to help protect the oceans and wildlife and sign this petition to join the fight against single-use plastics.
