Jeff Lowe, the owner of the Tiger King private zoo, has officially been banned from ever exhibiting animals again.

On Thursday, a judge ruled that Jeff Lowe, his wife, and his company had violated the Endangered Species Act. The ruling said that Lowe had “violated the ESA by delivering, carrying and/or transporting” illegally-caught animals that are protected by the ESA.

Lowe may have gotten away with being able to keep the animals if he had not decided to exhibit those animals online without a proper license, thereby breaking the law.

A total of 146 animals were officially seized by the feds from the Tiger King zoo, many showing signs of long-term neglect.

This is a success for animal activists everywhere as the show, Tiger King, represents everything wrong with keeping animals in captivity for human entertainment. The fact that the actual zoo was still open just highlighted how little protection wild animals have in the US.

While Lowe avoided charges, he is now banned from exhibiting animals. Furthermore, the animals that were seized were sent to sanctuaries around the US where they are finally getting to live out as close to a natural life as a captive-raised wild animal can have. Most importantly, they will never be exhibited for human entertainment again.
