Thousands of dollars in donations have streamed into Northern Virginia animal rescue and adoption agency to honor the life of NFL quarterback Dwayne Haskins.

The Wolf Trap Animal Rescue has received many donations with sweet notes honoring Haskins. The 24-year-old passed away last week when he was hit by a dump truck. NFL fans wondered what they could do after his death to honor the player.

Fans discovered that the Wolf Trap Animal Rescue was the beneficiary that Haskins had chosen to Support in 2019 through the My Cause My Cleats initiative in the NFL. Haskins creates blue and green cleats with a sketch of his 2-year-old Dobermann, Roscoe.

“Dogs are a man’s best friend,” Haskins said. “We just love spending time with them — they bring a whole bunch of energy — and they make my day brighter.”

Wolf Trap Animal Rescue saves animals from euthanasia, neglect, and abuse. According to their website, many of the animals come from Mississippi, where hundreds of young animals are often euthanized every day due to overpopulation. In the last seven years, the rescue has adopted out over 9,000 dogs and puppies and almost 2,500 cats and kittens.

According to USA Today Sports, many donated in multiples of seven and three, which were Haskins jersey numbers when he was at Ohio state. The rescue usually sees about $10 or 15 in donations any given day, so the nearly $7,000 was a great surprise and will go to help save so many animals from euthanasia.
