There is a secret club I know. I bet you know it too. However, the first rule of Nooch Club is that you don’t talk about Nooch Club. Or maybe we should. We should talk about it. Brag about it. Scream it from the rooftops. I love noooooch! Maybe I’ll jump on Oprah’s couch and profess my love for it. Oh wait, that’s so 2005. Or maybe I’ll share a controversial kiss with it on stage at the VMAs while wearing a wedding dress. Oh wait, that’s so 2003. We gotta move it up some. Or maybe, just maybe, I’ll bake a cake with it then get arrested for driving under the influence of it! There we go, that’s so 2014. You can’t arrest me, I’m The Nutritional Yeast Boss! Sorry Buddy, too soon?
All kidding aside, nooch is sort of a momentous thing. If you are vegan (and even if you’re not) a golden flaky substance called nutritional yeast must be a part of your life, a BIG part might I add. It just has to be. Why? I’ll tell ya! Nutritional yeast, affectionately known as “nooch,” is like one of nature’s perfect foods. A microorganism (don’t think of it that way or else it’ll just freak you out), it has a nutty flavor and a powdery texture with large and small yellowish colored flakes. It packs a nutritional punch as it is loaded with B vitamins, minerals and up to 9 grams of protein for 2 tablespoons depending on the brand. Oh, and it’s a complete protein at that! Oh yes, this food commodity contains 9 of the amino acids that your body cannot produce out of the 18 in total; it contains the essential ones baby!
Besides the fact that it’s uber-healthy for your body, it can also add something seriously special to your recipes! This good old yeast can thicken up your sauces and add a cheesy flavor to your foods, all while adding a vegan nutrient boost. So, now I’ll plug delicious One Green Planet recipes that can be made even more awesome if only they had some nooch in them. Bam, here we go!
Seriously, is there anything that nooch wouldn’t be good on? It’s perfect on everything! Sprinkle it on popcorn! Throw it in pasta! Toss it on a pumpkin pie….actually…
