Owowcow Introduces Vegan Ice Cream to Meet Growing Demand of Dairy-Free Customers

Ice Cream Cones

The demand for vegan ice cream continues to grow. Owowcow, a Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania chain, has gone vegan.

Owowcow has moved to offer plant-based ice cream to those looking to cut dairy from their diets. The company recently introduced three new vegan flavors at a store in Easton. Like other vegan purveyors, getting the texture right for the vegan offering was tough for Owowcow.

Shira Tizer Wade, Owowcow’s general manager said, “It took six months and 25 batches to get the right one.” The company needed to keep ingredients organic, natural and local. The ice cream shop settled on a mix of dairy-free milk, including cashew, oat and coconut cream.

The flavors include vegan vanilla salted caramel, I hate vegan chocolate and vegan golden milk. Vegan ice cream continues to grow in popularity. The Good Food Institute reported that dollars spent on plant-based ice creams grew by 27% between 2018 and 2019. According to the same research, plant-based ice cream spending was $304 million for 2018! Ben & Jerry’s and Haagen Daaz offer vegan ice cream now.
