Denver, Colorado has generated real buzz in the plant-based community. From raw food to comfort food, from All-American to local garden Indian fusion, Denver has it all when it comes to plant-based offerings. Boulder, Colorado has been on our radar, so we couldn’t resist making the trip to Denver. In this showcase, we’ll take you to 10 restaurants where your plant-based dining dreams can come true.

1. Watercourse

One of Denver’s original vegan restaurants, Watercourse began in 1998 as a small vegetarian cafe. The name “Watercourse” is derived from the Taoist principle of the “water course way” which means taking the path which causes the least harm.

Watercourse is a cooking-from-scratch kitchen offering fresh ingredients and seasonal menu options that feature brunch, lunch and dinner staples. The kitchen also has a few out-of-town selections like nachos and pot stickers. The restaurant that takes pride in using local vendors, sustainable businesses practices, and giving back more than they take.

2. City O’ City

City O’ City redefines what it means to source locally. They partner with local vendors, farms, and artists whenever possible to give their customers the freshest possible experience. They even have their own urban micro farm to get their produce fresh from the source.

With offerings of delicious locally grown food, local craft beer, and coffee, this restaurant provides early morning breakfast and late-night sipping in a hip, casual environment. All dietary preferences are considered, and the menu has an extensive gluten-free selection. Don’t forget to stop in for happy hour!

3. Beet and Box Bakery and Cafe

Beet and Box Bakery and Cafe is a vegan bakery focused on delicious food and whole ingredients. They offer decadent baked goods and coffee drinks, along with sandwiches and tarts for the savory eater. Their cake selection is particularly imaginative, with unique and inventive cakes for all occasions. Great for kids.

4. The Corner Beet

The Corner Beet offers their unique selection of toasts, salads, and acai bowls in a hip, relaxing environment. Everything on the menu at The Corner Beet is 100% organic and made locally or in-house whenever possible. The restaurant/cafe also provides a venue for artists to showcase their songs, poetry, and other expression in a supportive and encouraging space.

5. Native Foods

Native Foods might have locations in L.A., Chicago, and Oregon but that doesn’t stop this plant-based company from being involved in the local community. With delicious burgers, burritos, wraps and more Native Foods is a kid-friendly location with a full plant-based children’s menu.

6. Root Down

Root Down has a simple motto: “Root Down aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food.” But simplicity is only the beginning of the work they do. Root Down specializes in using seasonal, sustainable ingredients to keep the food they serve as fresh and environmentally conscious as possible. They are powered 100% by wind energy and grow 20% of their vegetable in their garden in-house. While the menu can change with the season, you can always enjoy their delicious sliders. While not all of their food is exclusively vegan, Root Down offers a sustainable model that some restaurants can only dream of.

7. Meta Burger

The plant-based burger joint Meta Burger was developed and created by two ambitious people who saw a lack of affordable plant-based and health-conscious dining, both in Denver and in the world at large. Meta Burger serves American burger classics as well as their own unique burger visions. The word ‘Meta’ means seeing something from a higher perspective. 8. Wong Way Veg

It wouldn’t be a hip restaurant list without at least one food truck. Wong Way Veg’s ‘scratch made vegan comfort food’ proves you don’t need a big kitchen to make delicious vegan food. The truck was founded by Lisa Wong. Coming from a family of restaurateurs, her love of street food, animals, and passion for feeding people is what fuels her adorable orange truck!

Radha Govinda’s is a family-owned restaurant that offers Indian cooking and more at their multicultural buffet. They source food locally and grow their own produce for a fully organic, sustainable feast. Kids under 5 eat free!
