Over forty million tourists visited Mexico last year. Mexico is certainly taking strides to reduce animal products in the country, but for those of us on a plant-based diet, the avalanche of cheese, egg, carnitas, and the like can seem intimidating on vacation.

For this reason, we’ve put together a list of delicious vegan-friendly spots to check out while in Mexico City. Happy eating!

1. Forever Vegano

Forever Vegano offers American favorites alongside delicious Mexican classics and has a sizeable breakfast and smoothie menu. This all-vegan eatery was founded on the belief that food should be clean, healthy, and free of cruelty. Forever Vegano believes that global changes start with the stomach, and all their menu reflects a think-globally-act-locally state of mind.

2. Pan D’Monium

Great burgers, great prices, and ran out of a food cart, Pan D’Monium is one of the tastiest vegan street foods you’ll find anywhere. If you’re looking for a delicious vegan burger, you’ve come to the right place. They also serve pizza on the weekends, which is a real treat.

3. Por Siempre Vegano Taqueria

Por Siempre Vegano is another street food entry, but this time we get to the vegan taco stand. All comers can enjoy vegan meats (soy or seitan) in all the traditional Mexican styles, from the sweet al pastor, to the spicy chorizo, all the way to the decadent, fried suardeo.

4. Falafelito

Falafelito is, in their own words, ‘As Vegan as it gets.” As the name suggests, this falafel restaurant serves nutritious, healthy food with just the right amount of South-American twist. Renowned for their gigantic falafel balls, you’re sure not to be leaving hungry. If you’re out and about, or in the mood to try something a little different, give this hip spot a go!

5. Vegan Ville

If you’re interested in cooking at home one night, do try one of Mexico City’s few vegan grocers, Vegan Ville! Packed with every ingredient for vegan cooking, as well as a tasty buffet option for grab-and-go dining, and cooking workshops for anyone interested! Check it out.

6. Gatorta

Tortas are one of Mexico’s signature foods, but getting them vegan can prove a challenge. Gatorta offers plenty of delicious vegan tortas, tacos, and authentic Mexican desserts all made 100% vegan. Of course if you ask their customers, you can’t leave without trying the tortas.

7. La Pitahaya Vegana

If you’re looking for vegan tacos, La Pithaya Vegana is the spot. This taco joint offers delicious offerings like the cauliflower taco, as well as other ingredients you’ve never thought to use in tacos before. The food offerings are colorful, tasty, and with such a creative menu, nothing will feel like a substitute.

8. Los Antojos del Alma

An offshoot of a larger restaurant in a mall, Los Antojos del Alma is a casual eatery for breakfast, lunch, or an early dinner. Stop in for a quick power bowl, enchilada, or sandwich if you’re hungry, or a coffee, beer, or tea if you’re thirsty.

Utopia offers delicious vegan pizzas, and although Mexico City isn’t typically known for it’s classic Italian food, Utopia provides innovative Mexican-inspired takes on the classic pizza mold. Oh, and did we mention dogs are welcome?
