The head of the state oil giant Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) will now lead the COP28 climate talks in Dubai later this year. ADNOC is one of the largest oil companies in the world.

Environmentalists and climate activists were furious about the decision to appoint Sultan al-Jaber as COP28 president-designate. Groups are calling on al-Jaber to step down from his role as ADNOC CEO since it is a clear conflict of interest with his COP28 position.

“The UN Climate Summit is supposed to be a space where the world holds polluters to account, but increasingly [it’s] being hijacked by those with opposing interests. Like last year’s summit, we’re increasingly seeing fossil fuel interests taking control of the process and shaping it to meet their own needs,” Teresa Anderson, global lead on climate justice at ActionAid, said.

The time has finally come, and big oil is going down. A new PBS Docuseries Reveals How Big Oil Has Been Lying to The Public About Climate Change For Years. It’s finally time to take down the oil and gas industry; the jig is up. Our addiction to fossil fuels has created the climate crisis, and now it’s threatening our forests too. These companies have been exposed for lying, buying ads on Google

While we need to cut off our dependence on fossil fuels as quickly as possible, we also must remember another major industry that is causing harm to the environment; the meat and dairy industry. A study even found that meat and dairy companies are responsible for more harm to the environment than fossil fuels. It’s clear that the public has had enough. Protestors in the UK are blocking oil terminals despite hundreds of arrests, and celebrities like Jane Fonda have launched committees to fight political candidates funded by the fossil fuel industry.
