Belgium took a major step for wildlife protection in December 2025 when its Constitutional Court upheld a law banning the import of hunting trophies from endangered and vulnerable species. The rule protects animals such as elephants, lions, rhinos, jaguars, chimpanzees, cheetahs, and hippos from being turned into decorative souvenirs. France now faces growing pressure to follow this example. Sign the petition now to demand France ban trophy hunting imports and stand up for endangered wildlife.
Belgium’s Parliament reportedly passed the law unanimously, reflecting strong public opposition to trophy hunting. Before the ban, imported animal parts from already threatened species could still enter the country. Now those loopholes have been closed.
Trophy hunting targets animals already facing severe pressures including habitat loss, Climate change, and poaching. Allowing imports of heads, tusks, and skins sends a troubling message that extinction can be tolerated for entertainment.
France often presents itself as a leader on environmental protection and biodiversity. Yet without a ban, it risks remaining part of a global trade that harms vulnerable species.
Belgium has shown decisive action is possible. France should act now. Sign the petition now to demand legislation banning trophy imports. Sign the petition now to protect wildlife.
