A protected bald eagle was shot and killed in rural Louisiana, and officials still have not identified the person responsible. Bald eagles are the US national bird and are federally protected, so killing one is illegal. In early December 2025, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries found an injured eagle and rushed the bird to veterinary care. Sadly, experts determined the gunshot wound was so severe the eagle would not survive, and the bird died soon after.

Louisiana once had only five known breeding pairs in 1970. Today there are more than 350 pairs statewide, but threats like habitat loss, poisoning, and fishing line entanglement remain. Sign the petition now and tell officials to keep investigating. Sign the petition now to demand accountability for wildlife harm.
