Two cats were found dead and discarded in a dumpster in St. Lucie County, Florida. At first, the suspect allegedly told authorities one cat, Dean, had died after choking on a hairball. Hours later, he confessed. He admitted to choking and strangling Dean after the cat scratched him during play, a normal feline behavior. Veterinary findings reported bruising and hemorrhaging in Dean’s eyes, injuries consistent with strangulation. What happened to the second cat remains unclear.
This case demands accountability and prevention. Violence against animals is a serious warning sign. Prosecutors must act to protect other animals and the wider community. Justice should include mandatory mental health counseling alongside appropriate penalties. Punishment alone does not address the underlying risk of repeat harm.
Sign the petition now to demand justice for Dean. Sign the petition now to urge prosecutors to require counseling and safeguards. Speak up for animals and prevention.
