Indonesia has taken a major step for animals by banning elephant rides nationwide, including at zoos, tourist sites, and so called Conservation facilities. This matters. Elephants are intelligent, social beings meant to roam long distances with family groups, not carry tourists for entertainment. This ban shows that protecting animals and the environment can come before profit. Other governments must follow. Sign the petition now to keep this momentum going and protect elephants everywhere.
Elephant rides allegedly cause lifelong physical harm. Elephants backs and spines are not built to carry humans, let alone multiple riders in extreme heat. The training process allegedly involves violent tools and a method known as the crush, which is used to break an elephant’s spirit through fear and pain. When not giving rides, elephants are often chained and confined. This is not Conservation.
Indonesia has shown leadership. Now the US, India, and Thailand must act. Sign the petition now. Sign the petition now to end elephant rides globally.
