Her favorite things include food, cuddles, and naps. On Thanksgiving Day, Guinness World Records announced Flossie as the world’s oldest living cat.
“Flossie, a beautiful brown and black kitty with a gentle disposition and who loves cuddles and food, has seen different homes throughout her long life,” Guinness World Records wrote in their announcement.
The cat has lived in at least four homes and was recently given to Cats Protection, a cat charity and adoption center. Workers were reportedly shocked when they looked at Flossie’s vet records.
Flossie was adopted by a worker at Merseyside hospital in Liverpool. Before that, she was a young stray cat who lived in a colony close to the hospital. Flossie lived with her human until they passed away 10 years later. She was then adopted by the woman’s sister who she lived for 14 years until she passed away as well. Her previous human’s son took her in and she lived with him for three years before he took her to Cats Protection for her “best interests.”
Flossie was soon adopted by a woman who had cared for numerous senior cats.
“I knew from the start that Flossie was a special cat, but I didn’t imagine I’d share my home with a world record holder,” the woman, Vicki Green said.
Although she can’t hear or see well, Flossie is still playful and in good health. She loves food and snuggles with her human.
“She never turns her nose up at the chance of a good meal,” Green said.
“She sometimes misses her litter box or needs help grooming herself, but I can help with all of that. We’re in this together,” she said.
