To calm himself in the stressful shelter environment, Snoopy likes to suck on his blanket and toys.

An orca, identified as T65A5, was successfully freed from entanglement in a crab pot near Saratoga Passage, Washington. The incident unfolded on Wednesday morning, July 5th, when reports of the entangled whale reached NOAA Fisheries West Coast, who promptly launched a response operation.

4. Neglected Dog Seized After Being Found Covered in Mats

An 11-year-old Maltese Shitzu mix named Emma was seized from her owner in Western Australia after being neglected for at least six months. The neglected dog was found covered in mats, which RSPCA Western Australia inspectors stated were causing her pain. Despite being previously instructed to get Emma groomed, the owner did not do so. This caused Emma to develop a severely matted coat that had prickly plant seeds embedded in it. Photos taken at the time of her rescue show the seeds entangled in her fur.

5. Animal Cruelty Caught in NYC As Horses Forced to Work in Extreme Heat

NYCLASS captured footage of horse carriages in poor conditions on Wednesday, July 5th. The tweet, shared by the animal rights organization shed light on issues that animals are facing in the city. That day, NYC’s Department of Health ordered the suspension of horse-drawn carriages due to extreme heat and poor air quality. But, that did not stop owners from continuing rides with no consequences long after the rules were made clear. Under New York State law, the horses cannot be forced to work in that heat index.

6. Couple Banned From Keeping Dogs for 10 Years

Emaciated dogs were found in a Blackpool, U.K. home on December 15, 2022, after a noise complaint and concerns were shared regarding the dogs’ wellbeing. Now, the owners are banned from keeping any animals for the next decade. The six Jack Russel Terriers, named Jack, Sasha, Angel, Coraline, Junior, and Jazz, were found in incredibly poor conditions in their home, according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
