Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shared that 4.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with liver disease. The data also found that up to 20% of Americans suffer from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), where livers are damaged by sources other than alcohol.

Experts recommend being mindful of plant-based options including condiments with hidden sugars, french fries, vegetable oils, and white bread.
“Refined carbohydrates lack the fiber of their whole-grain cousins. This leads to glucose surges in the blood, then insulin release, followed by deposits of fat on and around the liver,” according to certified nutrition counselor John Fawkes, NSCA, CPT.
Instead of vegetable oil, nurse practitioner Kelly Cole, MS, CRNP-PC, founder of Energy to Thrive Tribe, recommends using coconut oil instead!
