Finn, a police dog German Shepherd won the hearts of people all over the world after being attacked on duty. The police dog had been nearly stabbed to death when confronting an armed suspect.
Five years later, Finn is still going strong and has made a complete recovery.
It took 3 months before he could return to work, and he retired a year later. Finn’s handler, PC Dave Wardell, was also injured in the stabbing and later adopted Finn.
Finn has not settled down to a quiet life of retirement, however. As he is now the face of a campaign in the Uk meant to create harsher punishments for those who injure service animals.
Finn’s Law, created in 2019, provides harsher punishments for those who injure service dogs. Making it harder for them to get off without any punishment.
He has appeared on several talk shows and tv shows. Appearing on the globally known Britain’s Got Talent.
Finn has indeed had a very busy retirement and plans to get involved in even more animal welfare causes. Alongside his owner Wardell who is beside him every step of the way.
A story like Finn’s may start out sad, but it has made a huge impact in the long run. Opening people’s eyes to the importance of protecting our service dogs and making sure that they are well cared for.
