Canines have played a large role in law enforcement for decades. Their keen senses and heightened intuition has helped pinpoint dangerous objects and diffuse difficult situations before they become dangerous. But police dogs are more than accessories. They’re respected and valued by their comrades just the same as any human member of the force.
Argo of Hidalgo County Law Enforcement was one such canine. He was born on March 13th of 2006 in the Czech Republic. Argo came into the custody of Hidalgo Sherriff’s Department in August of 2009 and was partnered with Lt Francisco Guerrero after he completed his training. In his work as a police tracking dog and narcotics-sniffing dog, Argo was directly responsible for sniffing out thousands of pounds of illegal contraband and had a hand in catching dozens of criminals.
Sadly, this sweet pup became ill with bone cancer and could no longer perform his duties. Argo’s family had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down after the pain became too much for his elderly body to take. This touching but tragic video shows Argo’s last moments, which he spent surrounded by the people who loved him so very much.
Rest in peace, Argo.
