PETA has revealed even more about the cruel practices of the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center after their expose on the facility.

The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center is home to over 2,000 primates all being used for experiments or for breeding purposes. They are all kept in small, metal cages and are often isolated from one another.

Humans aren’t the only ones who have suffered during Covid lockdowns, it would seem. Cornelius, a rhesus macaque, has been in lockdown for about 10 years. Cornelius was often seen hunched over with his face pressed against the bars of his cage, a clear sign of mental anguish as these primates are highly social creatures.

PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo said, “Invasive experiments and near-constant solitary confinement have left Cornelius broken. Following 20 months of pandemic life, our society has become more attuned to the devastating mental-health effects of isolation, and PETA is alerting compassionate locals to cruel, taxpayer-funded experiments that keep our animal kin in lockdown.”

Even after 60 years, 16,000 dead monkeys, and $666 million in taxpayer funding, the WNPRC has yet to reveal a cure for human diseases. This proves just how utterly pointless these cruel and inhumane experiments are.

These primates are highly intelligent and social creatures that were never meant to live in cages, let alone go through horrific experiments. PETA asks that the facility do the right thing and send the primates to a sanctuary to get the care that they need and deserve.

Sign this petition and tell the University of Washington to shut down its horrible monkey-testing facility.

  1. This is exactly why funding must be redirected away from experiments that involve tormenting living beings, and into advanced, humane, and human-relevant research. Sensitive, intelligent living beings are not research tools.
