GOAT

On New Year’s Eve, a goat was found on route 380 in Wyoming County after escaping a slaughter truck. The truck was heavily crowded with goats meant for the slaughterhouse when one very lucky goat managed to escape.

Indraloka Animal Sanctuary was called to come to help after a distraught woman saw the small and sickly goat on the highway. Rescuers came as fast as they could and decided to name him Franklin.

Indra Lahiri, Founder of Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, said, “When he arrived, he was so afraid that he wouldn’t even sleep laying down. He was so hungry and thirsty that he drank a whole bowl of water and ate all this food, and then he fell asleep standing up with a little piece of hay still in his mouth. There’s no way that he would get that sick and that skinny without severe neglect. He’s so frightened of human beings though, that I think at the very least he was treated roughly.”

Franklin was taken to the sanctuary after having a vet visit, where it was determined that Franklin had pneumonia, ulcers in both eyes, overgrown hooves, and worms. All are very stark signs of severe neglect and a lack of proper care.

Indraloka Animal Sanctuary will help Franklin heal and care for him for the rest of his life. At the sanctuary, he will finally get the love and care that all animals deserve.
