Refuge RR is calling for help today for donations toward the cost of medical care needed by a brave little piglet!

Lilly is a three-week-old piglet who fell off a transport truck that was on its way to a growing facility. She was rushed into emergency surgery because she had suffered a high-velocity injury from the speed and force of her fall.

Unsurprisingly, Lilly is in shock after her ordeal. She has bleeding and swelling in her lungs and severe inflammation of the muscle after her injury. This damaged muscle can release enzymes into the bloodstream that are toxic to the kidneys and is a very painful condition for her to have to deal with.

Lilly was put on IV fluids for her kidney issues and pain management to deal with the aftermath of her fall. She was hypoglycemic at the time of her admission, and generally speaking, this poor little girl is battered and bruised!

Here she is receiving some much-needed love and snuggles after being checked over. Keep fighting, Lilly! There is a better life waiting for you when you recover!

So many pigs and piglets seem to be falling from trucks on their way to growing factories and feeder farms as of late. Is the price of their lives so insignificant to these people that their safety during transport is too much to ask for? Lilly’s story and others like it are the good ones with positive outcomes. How many more of these poor animals fall with no one paying attention, or even noticing? Pigs are beautiful, intelligent, gentle animals who deserve more in life than falling from the back of speeding trucks — or ending up on our dinner plates!

Refuge RR works hard to rescue wild, domestic, and farmed animals from slaughter, abuse, violence, and neglect. They provide a safe home for animals who have only known cruelty and abuse and a second chance for so many who would otherwise live the very worst of lives. If you’re interested in following Lilly’s story or would like to know more, please visit their Facebook page.
