A vegan fish and chips shop has opened up in Manchester and has been met with startlingly positive reviews from both vegan and non-vegan customers.
JJ’s Vish and Chips serves up plant-based options like vegan fish and chips, vegan bratwurst, and sausages and nuggets.
Jess Jones, the owner, said, “It was about two and a half, nearly three years ago now I was at a fish and chip shop in Leeds, my hometown, and just wanted a takeaway. I was vegetarian at the time and realized I couldn’t get anything that was vegetarian and a chippy tea. There were all these sort of things that were coming out like vegan burgers and junk food you could get, but there didn’t seem to be any fish and chip shop replicas.”
The plant-based fish is made with marinated banana blossoms and shaped to look like a fish cutlet. These recreations of traditional fish and chips have been met with much approval as the locals in Manchester are met with a variety of new options.
This gives vegans and vegetarians a delicious takeout option as well as giving meat-eaters an opportunity to try something plant-based.
