The United States joined a high-level international summit to help reignite its place on the global climate stage on January 25. President Biden has made multiple remarks and actions on Climate change during his new administration.

Special Climate Envoy John Kerry met with international members China’s Deputy Prime Minister Han Zheng, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, and others at the Climate Adaptation Summit, according to Reuters.

The event was held in the Netherlands and builds on the Paris Agreement and other indicators to put concrete solutions and plans into place for the period until 2030. 3,000 scientists put out a statement ahead of the summit pushing leaders to take action.

“Our fast-warming world is already experiencing major disruptions from more intense droughts, fires, heat waves, floods, destructive tropical cyclones and other extreme events”, the scientists said in a statement. “Unless we step up and adapt now, the results will be increasing poverty, water shortages, agricultural losses and soaring levels of migration with an enormous toll on human life.”

In a video message, Kerry said during the summit, “We’re proud to be back (in the Paris climate accord). We come back, I want you to know, with humility, for the absence of the last four years, and we’ll do everything in our power to make up for it.”
