Animal rights activists shared an extremely disturbing video of over 1000 dead dogs and said that Iran government-affiliated agents slaughtered the dogs.

The video shows dozens of dead dogs lying on the dry ground, and animal activists claim that Iranian forces raided the dog shelter and shot the animals dead. Many videos have been shared online of the massacre at the Gandak Dog Shelter located in Damavand, Northeast of Tehran, Iran. The public is rightfully outraged.

The dogs were reportedly all vaccinated and sterilized, meaning there was no reason for the government to murder them. The Node reported that the government forces arrested animal rights activists who tried to stop authorities from the senseless slaughter. A protest was held to condemn the mass killing of the dogs at the shelter.

Animal abuse is more prevalent than many may think. According to PetPedia, every 60 seconds, an animal suffers from abuse, with more than 65 percent being dogs. More than 10 million animals die from abuse every year in the US alone, not including the livestock bred for consumption, who also suffer immense abuse. Animal abuse happens everywhere and is a serious issue. We need more laws to protect animals and hold abusers accountable.
