On February 16, 2022, a new documentary exposing the horrors of the monkey trade will premiere on Earthstream. Sanctuary, is directed by Shannon Keith, who’s also the founder of Beagle Freedom Project. The film follows the stories of five individual monkeys who are rescued: Puchi, Chucky, Jimmy Sr., Chaac, and Bali.
This comes on the heels of the highly publicized incident of the truck crash in Pennsylvania, which was carrying 100 monkeys to a laboratory to be experimented on. In response to that crash, an airline decided to stop transporting monkeys for research.
Sanctuary plans to take the viewer on an emotional journey, showing these monkeys languishing in captivity and suffering from being exploited in the pet trade or in laboratories, to their eventual rescue and rehabilitation. Its aim is to show a sad underworld, but also give hope for the future because of the dedicated work of the activists involved.
Besides this latest documentary, Keith has also directed Behind the Mask and Skin Trade, both of which are multi-award-winning documentaries about Animal rights issues. The film will be narrated by Victoria Summer, who played Julie Andrews in Saving Mr. Banks and had a supporting role in Transformers: Age of Extinction.
The wildlife pet trade and animal experiments are some of the most horrifying activities imaginable. Animals are ripped away from their homes and families and shown little to no mercy from humans.
