A dog who wandered from home got stranded in the Russian Arctic. Luckily, a crew noticed the dog and brought him on board, Yahoo News reported.

Crew members of the Russian icebreaker “Alexander Sannikov” spotted the dog near the Gates of the Arctic. The crew members were worried for the dog’s safety and didn’t want to leave him there.

The shipowner put our a ladder to rescue the dog and he came up. The captain of the ship shared in the statement, “We investigated all the possibilities of lifting the animal from the ice and placed a ceremonial ladder which the dog used to get onboard. Later we used mobile communications to contact locals, found the dog owner, and a few hours later the animal was safely returned to the village.”

One-year old Aika was reunited with his family soon thereafter. The owner had been looking for the dog for more than a week!
