A bill was recently introduced to amend the Animal Welfare Act to prohibit the use of wild or exotic animals in traveling action shows. The bill was last introduced in May 2019 and received a huge amount of celebrity support.

The Traveling Exotic Animal and Public Safety Protection Act (TEAPSPA) will help protect wild and exotic animals from being used for traveling shows, such as in carnivals and circuses

The bill was launched on November 17th during a live virtual event hosted by Animal Defenders International. The bill’s sponsors,  and various celebrities, including Chloe East, Jorja Fox, and Kim Matula, were also in attendance.

In an email to One Green Planet, ADI President, Jan Creamer said, “ADI has been honored to champion this important legislation, providing evidence, and working with the sponsors on the bill. Animals in traveling acts endure long periods of travel confined in small spaces, physical and social deprivation, and brutal, violent methods of control. It is time to put an end to this suffering in the United States!”

Using animals for human entertainment is extremely exploitative and detrimental to the animals’ wellbeing. This bill is a huge leap for animal rights and will help protect the beautiful species that share the planet with us. You can support TEAPSPA here!
