At least 48 cats were killed in a devastating fire that broke out at a home in Nebraska that was also an animal shelter. The shelter confirmed that 48 cats, including 7 kittens were killed in the fire.
Michelle Tynan, one of three co-founders of Necbraska Loves Cats, said the fire started in the laundry room. After calling 911, Tynan tried to grab as many cats as possible.
“I could hear the cats crying and I was begging for somebody to please let me go back in and get the animals out,” Tynan told the North Platte Telegraph. “I was just beside myself in grief, screaming.” She tried breaking windows and hoped that might help more cats find freedom.
Some cats that escaped the fire are still on the loose. A fundraiser has been set up to help cats harmed by the fire.
