Dog Missing For Two Weeks Found Swimming in Bay

A dog that had been missing for 16 days was found swimming along the Jersey Shore, PEOPLE reported. Chunk, the missing golden retriever, had been lost for 16 days when he was spotted by state police.

Two New Jersey state troopers on their shift early in the morning got an odd call. A golden retriever was swimming in Barnegat Bay on the Jersey Shore. He needed help. The officers motored a boat to the dog, who was over 200 feet away from shore.

“He was extremely tired,” says Vincent Ferdinandi, a trooper, of finding the dog. “Definitely malnourished, hungry.” Chunk had run into the woods a few weeks prior while playing fetch with his owners and ran away.

Chunk seemed nervous around the troopers but they kept him close until his family could get there.

“To see the sigh of relief that a part of their family was back was unbelievable, and the dog was happy to see his family as well,” says Ferdinandi.

“Troopers Koehler and Ferdinandi responded in a vessel and located Chunk, who was swimming in the area of the Mantoloking Bridge, and were able to bring him safely to shore,” the State Police shared in a Facebook post announcing the rescue, “Chunk, who is three years old, was missing for more than two weeks. Needless to say he was ecstatic to be reunited with his grateful owners.”
