It seems that plant-based burgers are all the rage lately. The Beyond Burger and Impossible Burger are constantly sweeping headlines, nabbing spots on restaurant menus or launching in stores. Beyond Meat even went public a few months ago. The Impossible Burger which was only available in restaurants recently debuted in stores on the West Coast and shortly after, on the East Coast. Now, Costco wants to get in on the competition by launching a vegan burger by Don Lee Farms.

The burger, called “Better Than Beef,” will be arriving at Costco stores in the next three weeks. It will be available at Costco stores in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Washington, and HEB stores in Texas. Danny Goodman says, “Our new Better Than Beef™ Burger delivers on the experience and satisfaction of beef’s aroma, texture, flavor and juiciness with the lowest calories, fat and saturated fat on the market. We can’t wait to get this burger in more hands as we expand our brand into retail markets.”

Costco was selling their own Kirkland signature brand veggie burgers until their recall in April when there were pieces of metal in the burgers. Surely, customers will be pleased to know there is a new plant-based burger in stock. Don Lee Farms refers to their Better Than Beef burger as “better for the planet,” which shows they are also targeting the sustainable and eco-conscious consumer.

Don Lee Farms is also specifically proud that their burger is made entirely from plants and is not a genetically engineered product.
