New York City’s culinary landscape is ever-changing. At the heart of this is Overthrow Hospitality, a trailblazing vegan food hall that is unafraid to challenge convention. Spearheaded by the visionary restaurateur and 2024 James Beard Award semifinalist Ravi DeRossi, Overthrow Hospitality aims to push boundaries in the growing plant-based food scene.

Cadence, the vegan soul food haven, emerged as one of 2021’s most exciting newcomers, captivating palates with its bold flavors and intimate ambiance. In 2022, it embarked on a transformative journey, migrating from its cozy enclave to a larger, luminous space across the street, amplifying its culinary symphony. Meanwhile, Avant Garden, an icon of innovative vegan cuisine since 2015, transcended its origins on Seventh Street, embarking on a pilgrimage to Avenue A, a testament to its enduring evolution.

The latest chapter in Overthrow Hospitality’s saga unfolds with the emergence of Third Kingdom, a mushroom-focused restaurant. Initially conceived as a pop-up sensation known as “& Beer,” Third Kingdom finds its roots planted firmly at 27 East 7th Street, marking a permanent evolution of flavors and experiences.

Under the culinary stewardship of Juan Pajarito, the chef behind Avant Garden, Third Kingdom promises a veritable symphony of fungi-infused dishes. From delicious dumplings to soul-warming ramen, the menu celebrates the diverse textures and flavors of mushrooms. Each dish features an array of mushrooms from golden enoki to majestic lion’s mane and earthy maitake.

As the curtains rise on Third Kingdom, everyone is invited to see the power of mushrooms. With seating for 50, including a welcoming bar and plush banquettes, Third Kingdom beckons both connoisseurs and casual diners to indulge.

In the words of Ravi DeRossi, “Our intention with this and all of our concepts is to offer elevated plant-based cuisine in an inclusive environment that appeals to everyone, whether they are vegan or not.”
