The Obama Presidental Center will include an environmentally sustainable design, the Obama foundation shared on its website. The Chicago-based center will house sustainable landscaping, a garden, an education center, and other eco-friendly concepts.
The Center will be a “living, working center for engagement — an ongoing project for the community and world to shape what it means to be an active citizen in the 21st century,” according to a statement.

According to NPR, the buildings will be certified LEED v4 Platinum for resource efficiency and sustainability. Composting sites will be located across the grounds and the center will also hold SITES Silver, and ILFI Zero Energy certifications. Solar panels will help the center operate as carbon neutral.
