Neglected Senior Dog Found by Cops, Who Use Her Microchip to Reveal Her Story

Lola, a thirteen-year-old dog, has experienced a tumultuous journey through several homes before finding herself back with her original foster organization, Animal Education and Rescue (AEAR). Lola’s story began in 2012 when she was found as a stray in Illinois and taken to a local shelter. AEAR, a nonprofit dedicated to finding homes for animals, successfully placed Lola with a loving family who cared for her for seven years.

However, Lola’s stability was short-lived. Following her initial adoption, the original humans divorced, and the dog was passed between families. After spending a year with her initial adopters, Lola moved to a new home, and after that family’s relocation, she was transferred to a relative’s care. Despite the best intentions, Lola struggled in her new environments; her last caretaker admitted to AEAR that Lola roamed freely and was eventually given away to a man who brought her to North Chicago Animal Control.

AEAR quickly intervened once Lola’s microchip led them to her. They discovered she was suffering from severe obesity and had long, untrimmed nails. Despite her age and health issues, AEAR is dedicated to improving Lola’s quality of life. They have provided her with the necessary grooming and are committed to giving her the care she deserves in her twilight years. Lola’s story has touched many hearts, as shown by the outpouring of Support on AEAR’s July 31 Facebook post.
