Senior Dog Given a Second Chance After Being Surrendered

Tea Rose, a 16-year-old Maltipoo, recently faced an uncertain future after her lifelong human surrendered her due to alleged allergies. Left at the New York Animal Care Center, her prospects were bleak until Posh Pets Rescue stepped in.

A heartwarming video featuring Melissa McClellan, Posh Pets’ director, cradling Tea Rose quickly gained attention on social media. In the video, Linda Vetrano, the founder, expressed disbelief over the situation, noting the dog’s confusion and vulnerability. Despite the challenges, Tea Rose is now safe with them.

Linda Vetrano recounted her initial reaction upon seeing Tea Rose: “Owner’s had her all her life and surrendered her, saying she’s allergic. What can I say about people? Anyway, she’s safe with us now, [but] she’s a little confused.”

Thanks to the dedication of Posh Pets and its volunteers, Tea Rose was moved to a loving foster home in Long Island with Moira. The elderly dog, slightly blind and suffering from kennel cough, is receiving care and antibiotics to aid her recovery. Kennel cough is common in shelters but poses a greater risk to older dogs like Tea Rose. Symptoms include coughing, reduced appetite, and lethargy. Treatment is ongoing, but her spirit remains strong.
