Jane Goodall has spoken out again about the need for change after coronavirus. She spoke at an online event held by Compassion in World Farming and said humanity will be “finished” if we don’t alter our food systems after coronavirus.

Goodall said that intensive farming was creating diseases that could spill out into society. “We have brought this on ourselves because of our absolute disrespect for animals and the environment,” Goodall said. “Our disrespect for wild animals and our disrespect for farmed animals has created this situation where disease can spill over to infect human beings.”

Factory farming is responsible for habitat destruction, increased threat of disease and many other environmental issues. “If we do not do things differently, we are finished,” she said. “We can’t go on very much longer like this.”

Goodall warned, “We have come to a turning point in our relationship with the natural world. One of the lessons learnt from this crisis is that we must change our ways. Scientists warn that to avoid future crises, we must drastically change our diets and move to plant-rich foods. For the sake of the animals, planet and the health of our children.”

Janusz Wojciechowski, commissioner for agriculture in the European Union said during the conference, “We will constantly Support sustainable farming and breeding practices as an alternative to intensive industrial farming.”

Scientists believe that the spread of COVID-19, or coronavirus, started at an exotic animal market in Wuhan, China. You can help stop the incidence of viruses like these by signing this petition to ban the wildlife trade.

This is a good time to reconsider our intake of animal products to stay healthy. Eating more plant-based foods is known to help with chronic inflammation, heart health, mental wellbeing, fitness goals, nutritional needs, allergies, gut health, and more! Dairy consumption also has been linked to many health problems, including acne, hormonal imbalance, cancer, prostate cancer and has many side effects.
