A video shared by the TikTok account of Off The Plate Sanctuary, a nonprofit animal rescue based in Montgomery, Vermont, the viral clip has garnered over 1.2 million views and 107,000 likes since its upload just three days ago. Founded by Gretchen Eberle and Charles Snedicor, Off The Plate Sanctuary is dedicated to providing a haven for rescued animals in need.
The touching footage, captured via Nest Cam, Google’s smart security camera, depicts Eberle surrounded by cows and goats in an outdoor barn enclosure. Feeling overwhelmed while tending to her responsibilities, Eberle takes a brief respite, prompting the animals to gather around her in a gesture of empathy and concern.

Reflecting on the encounter, Eberle shared, “As I sat to take a quick break and reflect, a couple of the cows and goats nearby sensed my emotions and came over to check on me. They do this quite often. They are beautiful, feeling, sentient beings who feel many of the emotions we do.”
The video shows the deep emotional connection shared between humans and animals, challenging the notion that empathy is exclusive to higher primates or humans alone. As the animals encircle Eberle, their presence serves as a reminder of the love and compassion they have to offer.
