Vincent Lemark Burrell was arrested at his home in Paulding County last week, according to a Facebook post by the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.
“Conditions where dogs were being housed, both inside and on the exterior of this property, were not fit for humans, much less dogs,” according to the statement.
According to police, the man was breeding, training, and facilitating over one hundred Pitbulls in conjunction with dog fighting at his Paulding County home. After a long investigation, detectives arrested the 55-year-old man for his role in the massive dogfighting operation.
They found 106 dogs, mostly Pitbulls, many of whom were emaciated, while others were strong and extremely aggressive toward other dogs.
“The sad part is that the vast majority of these animals just craved the love and attention of the Deputies and Detectives that were on the scene,” the Sheriff’s Office’s said on a Facebook post.
Dogs were found tied to trees and metal stobs and were kept without being properly hydrated or fed. Many of the dogs were left in the elements for days without shelter. The dogs were also not seen or vaccinated by a veterinarian.
According to the authorities, some of the dogs were housed in the basement, where the presence and odor of urine and feces were so strong they had to wear protective equipment to safely enter the home.
Authorities rescued the dogs and placed them all in various rescue facilities where they can begin their rehabilitation.
Burrell is being held at the Paulding County Jail without bond, and authorities believe there will be over one hundred additional counts against him as the case continues to unfold.
Detectives are encouraging anyone with information about the case to call the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Tip Line at (770) 443-3047 or submit a tip through the Paulding Sheriff mobile app.
Animal abuse is more prevalent than many may think. According to PetPedia, every 60 seconds, an animal suffers from abuse, with more than 65 percent being dogs. More than 10 million animals die from abuse every year in the US alone, not including the livestock bred for consumption, who also suffer immense abuse. Animal abuse happens everywhere and is a serious issue. We need more laws to protect animals and hold abusers accountable. Sign this petition to demand all states make all animal abuse a felony now!
Also, sign this petition asking that they step up and ban posts that can contribute to dogfighting, such as selling dogs or giving them away for free!
