Dairy Cow Fakes Sleeping to Avoid Being Milked in Now Viral TikTok

A video recently went viral of a dairy cow who was seemingly ‘fake sleeping’ to avoid being milked in the morning at a farm in the Isle of Wight, UK.

The clip was posted by John Brodie on TikTok, where it has received over 1.9 million views. In the video, the farmer says “This is what a stubborn dairy cow looks like.”

He then walks down to and says, “Everyone’s out. Everyone’s getting ready for milking. Except for Doris. Doris is actually pretending to be asleep. Doris, come on. See your ears moving. Come on, I can see your eye.”

The cow that is lying down looks up at the farmer and he says “Right, come on. Time to earn your crust.”

The video instantly went viral, with many saying that they relate to Doris and don’t want to get up in the morning either. However, others pointed out that Doris is likely tired from being used and abused by the dairy industry.

“Doris is tired and cold and fed up with her body being used to feed greedy humans,” one user commented.

In an interview with CNN, Brodie said that the social media attention the video is getting is good saying, “I think any positive exposure for the dairy industry, particularly at the moment, is probably a good thing.”

Unfortunately, the video does not represent the entire dairy industry, and most farmed cows are not given names or talked to how Brodie talked to Doris. Far too many people still believe the lies that dairy cows are happy cows with their babies by their sides who enjoy being milked by hand by compassionate farmers. Please do your part to help dispel the dairy myths and spread the message wherever you can. Only through increased awareness will this type of gross suffering begin to become a thing of the past.
