If you have ever shared a home with a cat, you are probably already well-versed on how some cats will bring “gifts” to you from outside. The gesture is meant, of course, to be sweet, but for many cat guardians, it can be unappealing. One very smart cat, Baloo, has figured this out and came up with a new and endearing way to tell her human she loves him.
The tortoiseshell cat, would bring her human, Ben, mice and sometimes birds, leaving the animals on his chest every morning. Baloo’s offerings would be alive, so she was confused as to why Ben would react so disgusted.
“She always looked so confused and sad which made me feel pretty bad. I can’t be mad at her for being a cat, and besides I’m pretty sure she thinks she’s doing good,” Ben shared with Metro UK.
After bringing Ben over two dozen small rodents, two small birds and not getting the reaction she set out for, Baloo decided to bring Ben something else instead: leaves.

While we can’t guarantee they are going to bring you a new leaf every morning, there are thousands of deserving cats waiting for their forever homes at an animal shelter near you. Choosing to adopt rather than shop for a new pet helps to reduce the homeless pet population and can help free up more space in a shelter for other animals who desperately need it. Fostering an animal is another great way to help animals in need!
Even if you cannot foster or adopt, you can still help kittens. Participate in your local trap-neuter-release program to ensure that no unwanted kittens are born or use your social media accounts to raise awareness about the importance of adoption and spaying or neutering your pets.
If you know of a cat lover who would appreciate Baloo’s charming gesture, be sure to share this article with them!

As a cat lover/caregiver I have received many gits over the years – I am very tenderhearted towards animals and it distresses me when they bring a dead or nearly-dead mouse etc. I wish they would switch to leaves too!
