Philanthropist and billionaire Bill Gates shared his thoughts on promising coronavirus treatments in a recent blog post. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is currently working with companies to develop and fund potential coronavirus vaccines.

In his post, Gates covered how potential vaccines would work and the steps needed to develop an effective treatment against the contagious coronavirus. Gates believes a vaccine will take about 18 months and needs to be distributed around the world. The Foundation will also help in vaccine distribution when it becomes available.

“If we were designing the perfect vaccine, we’d want it to be completely safe and 100 percent effective. It should be a single dose that gives you lifelong protection, and it should be easy to store and transport. I hope the COVID-19 vaccine has all of those qualities, but given the timeline we’re on, it may not,” Gates shared.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation plays a significant role in the development and distribution of vaccines and medicine around the world. His blog detailed the phases of vaccines, quick development plans for the coronavirus vaccine, and the fact that there are 115 current vaccine candidates right now being developed. Gates has seen between 8 and 10 that look promising.

To conclude, Gates offered advice for what we can do until there’s a vaccine, “It might be a bit hard to see right now, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We’re doing the right things to get a vaccine as quickly as possible. In the meantime, I urge you to continue following the guidelines set by your local authorities. Our ability to get through this outbreak will depend on everyone doing their part to keep each other safe.”
