Abandoned Dog Found Shivering Tied to a Fence Near a Dumpster

An abandoned dog was found shaking in fear after being tied to a fence with a shoestring near a dumpster. Thankfully, the pup is now being fostered.

The Stray Rescue of St. Louis posted on Facebook about the dog, now named Shoestring, and shared the story of how he was found. Shoestring was found shivering in the early morning by a sweet woman who stayed with the frightened pup until rescuers arrived. Unfortunately, the shelter is beyond maximum capacity, so they immediately sought help from the public.

“We currently have 538 animals, most of them being adult dogs,” Natalie Thomson from Stray Rescue of St. Louis told Newsweek. “Sadly, this summer we saw more abuse cases than we ever have before. Our phone rings off the hook with people who find dogs, need to rehome their own dogs, or good Samaritans in rural areas that don’t know what to do when they find an injured dog or cat. People are treating man’s best friend like they are disposable.”

Thankfully, the shelter received thousands of reactions and comments to their post, and finally, they found Shoestring a foster home.

“We seek out and take in those who no other organization will help or would simply euthanize because they are too expensive to heal,” Natalie Thomson from Stray Rescue of St. Louis told Newsweek. “We rescue the abandoned, beaten, bred, fought, injured, terrified, defeated, and betrayed.”

Unfortunately, the shelter is now so full they are on ‘rescue freeze’ until they can find homes for the animals that they have already rescued.

With an estimated 7.6 million animals entering America’s shelters every year, fostering is important because it helps reduce overcrowding in shelters and opens up space for other animals to be saved. It also helps prepare animals for adoption by giving them a chance to live in a home where they can fully express their personality, work to overcome fears, or recover from trauma.

Having foster animals around is hard work, but it is so rewarding and very fun! It is something that will keep you up at night and steal time out of your day. But, you won’t regret a second of it! As a foster parent, you will be loving, raising, and caring for the kittens so that they can grow up and find their forever homes.
