As millions of people around the world are isolated in their homes, one UK nursing home company is matching residents with individuals for video calls and chats to combat loneliness. Because the elderly are so at risk for coronavirus, many places have been limiting visitors and interaction between residents.

CHD Living owns 13 nursing homes in London and is encouraging people around the world to apply to become volunteers to engage with “grandparents” through video calls.

A company representative shared, “The nature of care means that we’re looking after some of the most vulnerable members of society at the moment. We are however keen to keep spirits in the homes high and so have been thinking of ways that we can continue to enrich the lives of our residents whilst providing them with stimulation and companionship. It made sense at this time to digitize the Adopt a Grandparent campaign and to recruit further volunteers who might like to help keep our residents company over the coming weeks.”

Residents will be paired with individuals based on shared interests. You can apply to adopt a grandparent here.

Scientists believe that the spread of COVID-19, or coronavirus, started at an exotic animal market in Wuhan, China. You can help stop the incidence of viruses like these by signing this petition to ban the wildlife trade.

Consider eating fewer animal products to stay healthy at this time. Eating more plant-based foods is known to help with chronic inflammation, heart health, mental wellbeing, fitness goals, nutritional needs, allergies, gut health and more! Dairy consumption also has been linked to many health problems, including acne, hormonal imbalance, cancer, prostate cancer and has many side effects.
