Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 14 petitions you should sign this week, including Urge Large Banks to Divest From Fossil Fuel Companies, Demand Congress Protect Abortion Rights, and Call on Congress to Pass the Pets Belong with Families Act.

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Tell Florida to Fund Research About Virus That’s Infecting Turtles

Source: WMBB News 13/YouTube

In Florida, turtles are becoming infected with a serious virus that is making them too lethargic to even retreat from predators. Florida is a very biodiverse area and the environment and animals must be kept healthy there. Scientists must study this new virus to find out how to protect the turtles and the rest of the community. Please sign this petition to urge Florida to help fund this research and help educate its people about what they can do to protect their community!

2. Tell PetCo and PetSmart to Educate People About How to Care for Disabled Animals

Stargazer was a cat that was so abused by her previous owners that she was missing both eyes and a leg. Luckily, a young man saw her at a shelter just before she was about to be euthanized and decided to adopt her. However, after having the cat spend some time around his sister’s children, his sister became hysterical, calling the cat “demonic” and her husband told the young man that the children would not be coming over again unless he gave the cat up. After all the abuse the cat had endured, she was now faced with going back to the shelter again just because of the way she looked. Please sign this petition to tell PetCo and PetSmart to educate people about how to care for disabled and abused animals!

3. Urge Large Banks to Divest From Fossil Fuel Companies

Despite several recent reports that have shown how dire the climate change situation is, many people and businesses are still funding climate-destroying industries. Last year, a report revealed that several large banks are making large investments in the fossil fuel industry, including Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Citi, and Wells Fargo. There are, however, some banks like BNP Paribas and other community banks who have stated they will not be investing in this destructive industry. Please sign this petition to urge these large banks to divest from fossil fuel companies and help save our planet!

4. Demand Congress Protect Abortion Rights

Source: CNN/YouTube

Recently, a surprising leak came out of the Supreme Court that Roe v. Wade would be overturned. Although it was a draft and opinions can change before the opinions are published, it looks like a majority of justices will be voting to overturn this important decision. After hearing of this, crowds gathered outside the Supreme Court to protest. If this goes through, more than half of the states will vote to ban abortion, which will disproportionately affect already marginalized communities. Please sign this petition to demand Congress pass legislation that will protect a women’s right to choose!

5. Tell the SEC to Hold Companies Accountable for Climate Change

Source: CNBC Television/YouTube

A new rule is being proposed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that would require businesses to divulge the effects climate change is having on them and disclose their emissions data. On top of that, emissions by their suppliers and consumers would need to be revealed. This would allow investors and the public to choose to support more sustainable companies. Please sign this petition to tell the SEC that you support this proposed rule!

6. Call on the World Bank to Cancel Debt Repayments for People in Extreme Poverty

The pandemic and Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has pushed millions of people into extreme poverty. A briefing by the charity Oxfam has shown that more than a quarter-billion people may be in this category. On top of this, almost 30 million more people will be undernourished. The World Bank, however, can remedy the situation if they cancel debt repayments for the next two years. Please sign this petition to urge the World Bank to save these people, who are already so vulnerable, from slipping into extreme poverty!

7. Demand that These Animal Abusers Never Be Allowed to Have Animals Again

In Pennsylvania, a humane rescue officer found more than 40 horses who were malnourished, standing in their feces, and who didn’t have any food or water available to them. When officers questioned the owners of the property, one of them said, “We will just shoot all of the animals, then.” When the investigation concluded, over 600 charges were brought against the accused. Many animals were rescued from the farm, but some of them will likely suffer permanent damage. Please sign this petition to demand that these animal abusers never be allowed to have animals again!

8. Hold Shein Accountable for Their Environmental Impact

Environmental activists have been alerting us about the harm fast fashion has had on the environment for years. Mountains of clothes are being discarded and the carbon footprints of these companies are enormous. Shein, an online retailer that accounts for 28% of the market in the United States, produces up to 100,000 pieces of clothing per day, according to estimates. To make matters worse, consumers discard well over half of new clothes purchases within a year, and Shein’s low prices and business model is exacerbating this waste. Please sign this petition to urge Shein to become more sustainable!

9. Demand Justice for the Bees that Were Killed by Delta Airlines

Source: David Burns/YouTube

Recently, Delta Airlines was set to ship 5 million honeybees to Alaska. However, the plane was diverted to Atlanta and the bees were left to cook to death on the hot tarmac for several hours. Delta had been shipping bees for a while, so they knew that the bees must be kept cool a fed. Yet Delta employees decided to remove them from their cooler and stack the crates containing the bees directly in the hot Atlanta sun. Rescuers rushed to help save the bees, but most of them perished. Please sign this petition to demand that Delta give more than an apology and donate to projects that are helping to save the bees!

10. Demand that Louisiana Protect Pets from Horrific Abuse

In Louisiana, more and more pets are being shot with guns or bow-and-arrows. There has been an increase in cases partly because police aren’t enforcing animal cruelty laws in the area. Some of these cases involve neighbors or even the owners of these animals shooting their pets. Please sign this petition to demand lawmakers in Louisiana make sure that people are screened before they adopt animals and that police enforce animal cruelty laws!

11. Urge the Russian Navy to Stop Using Dolphins to Help Fight Their War

Source: NewsNation/YouTube

The Russian Navy is using Dolphins to thwart Ukrainian divers from sabotaging their naval base and warships. Satellite photos have confirmed that the Russian Military put trained dolphins next to a port in the black sea. Dolphins are among the most intelligent beings on the planet and they deserve to live a life free from exploitation. Please sign this petition to urge the Russian Navy to stop using dolphins to help fight their war!

12. Call on Congress to Pass the Pets Belong with Families Act

Source: TODAY/YouTube

Many people still believe that the temperament of a dog is more dependent on the breed, rather than the individual animal, despite the latest science contradicting that sentiment. This type of flawed thinking not only has repercussions for the adoption rates of certain breeds but also makes it so property owners can legally prohibit tenants from having those dogs on their property. A new bill, however, has been proposed that would prohibit public housing authorities from engaging in this discrimination. This would help low-income people who can’t afford to move somewhere else and so are faced with the decision to abandon their dogs. Please sign this petition to demand that Congress pass the Pets Belong with Families Act!

13. Tell Florida to Assess the Environmental Impacts of Crypto-Mining

Source: NBC News/YouTube

More and more people are investing in cryptocurrency; however, environmental advocates are rightfully concerned about the energy costs and emissions created by crypto mining. Bitcoin uses the same amount of power as Sweden! And the physical servers that are used contribute to over 30,000 metric tons of waste annually. Despite all this, the mayor of Miami is trying to convince crypto miners to come to his city. Please sign this petition to urge Florida’s Department for Environmental Protection to thoroughly assess the impacts crypto-mining could have on the environment before allowing these miners into their city!

14. Tell Louisiana Lawmakers to Strike Down New Draconian Abortion Bill

Source: MSNBC/YouTube

Louisiana lawmakers are currently deliberating a bill that would allow the state to charge women with homicide who have an abortion. This would mean that women who have life-threatening pregnancies or victims of rape who decide to terminate their pregnancy could be charged with murder. The bill has already passed a committee and will be headed to the legislature for deliberation. Please sign this petition to demand Louisiana lawmakers strike down this bill!
